No case is the same.  Judges and courts are different, prosecutors are different, and the specifics of your violation and situation are different.   By interviewing each client, we can customize our case based on the circumstances of the ticket, the nature and practices of the court, prosecutor and judge, court rules, statutes and case law, and your needs, driving record or employment situation.  Such flexibility is not possible when hiring a lawyer by filling out a form on a website.

Most tickets are either dismissed outright or a change to a non-moving violation is negotiated; with few found committed as written.  The advantage to having an experienced traffic lawyer is they know how and when to fight, and how and when to deal in order to get the best possible outcome for our client. The real cost of a traffic ticket is not the fine but rather the increase in insurance costs, which might run into the thousands.  Too many tickets can result in a driver’s license suspension and SR-22 insurance.  For a person under the age of 18, in addition to the increase in insurance they could lose their hard won driving privilege for just two tickets.  For professional drivers the ticket is even more critical; one ticket might mean the loss of a job.

If charged with DUI, Reckless Driving or Driving on a Suspended License, there are higher fines and penalties, possibly jail time, and a criminal record to consider. Why Hire a Snohomish County Speeding or Traffic Ticket Lawyer to Fight Your Ticket? Can You Afford Not To?

No one wants to get a traffic ticket as it is not a fun experience, but most people have gotten one or more in their lifetime. While nine out of ten people will just pay the ticket whether it was their fault or not, and move on, it is usually worth it to hire a Speeding Ticket Lawyer to fight your ticket. Often people get tickets when they don’t quite deserve them. Perhaps you got a speeding ticket when you were just keeping up with the flow of traffic, or misunderstood what the posted limit was, or someone was tailgating you. Perhaps you didn’t count to two before changing lanes after turning on your turn signal. Whether your fault or not, you have a much better chance of having the ticket not effecting your driving record if you fight it.

The fine on the ticket is only the first and most obvious cost to a ticket. A single traffic infraction on your record may cause an insurance increase that can cost you thousands of dollars.  A $20 increase in your monthly rates from just one ticket totals over $700; $50 to an additional $1800. If you have teenagers on your insurance policy, costs from a single ticket can go up swiftly. They may also be suspended by DOL for just two violation, even if on the same ticket. If you drive for a living, with a CDL, with a ride-share company like Uber or Lyft, or drive a company car, your driving record can be the difference between being employed or not. Too many tickets can also cause your license to become suspended or even revoked. If you choose to go to court yourself, add in the lost time and wages from taking the day off.

As you can see, it may well be worth it to have a lawyer fight for you to try to get your ticket dismissed or reduced. Here are a few different ways that having a lawyer on your side can help you.

    1. They Know How to Get You Out of It

When you get a Snohomish County traffic ticket, your first instinct is likely to try and find a mistake on the ticket or how to prove that you didn’t do whatever the ticket said that you did. However, do you know what errors will be sufficient under the law, to a judge, for a dismissal? A lawyer knows how to find errors that not many people will notice, and if there is an error or mistake on your ticket, can argue their legal importance. These errors will likely be missed by most people fighting by themselves to have their traffic ticket dismissed due to simple inexperience, so you can benefit greatly from having a lawyer that knows what technicalities they can use to help you get your ticket dismissed.

    2. A Traffic Lawyer Can Get Your Ticket Reduced

Sometimes, though, no mistakes are on your traffic ticket, and it turns out that it is unlikely for you to get out of your traffic ticket. A defense is either present or it isn’t. However, this doesn’t mean that you have to pay the entire fine, or that the violation has to go to DOL. Your lawyer will likely be able to negotiate a lower fine, or have the charge reduced, or both which can make a huge difference in how much you pay in insurance. They may be able to use your good driving record as a reason for why your ticket should be reduced, or they might find another reason that convinces the judge that reducing your ticket is a good idea. This is something you likely won’t be able to do as well on your own.

    3. A Traffic Attorney Fights for Your Rights

You most likely don’t know what your rights as a driver are in Washington State. However, your lawyer knows just about everything there is to know when it comes to traffic law, as something that they do on a daily basis. They know how to argue for you, and as importantly, when. In addition to knowing your rights, you have somebody that understands the law fully on your side. This will greatly increase your chances of having your ticket reduced or dismissed altogether.

    4. It’s Probably Less Expensive Than You Think

Most people think of “lawyer” as something that’s way too expensive for them to even consider. While this may be true for some areas of law, most traffic lawyers have quite reasonable, affordable, rates. After all, what would the point be in hiring a lawyer if their fees are more expensive than your ticket costs would be? Because of this, most traffic lawyers charge low rates for their clients. Fighting a traffic ticket takes a lot less time than a criminal case does, for example, or a lawsuit. Many traffic lawyers are able to handle dozens of cases on a busy day. This is part of the reason it’s not typically expensive to hire a traffic lawyer. When you consider that in addition to getting your ticket reduced or dismissed they can keep it from your driving record, you will likely see how hiring a lawyer is very well worth it.

    5. Prosecutors are More Respectful of Experienced Traffic Lawyers

People who represent themselves likely aren’t going to scare the prosecutors. Understandable, considering that most people aren’t going to fight very hard since they don’t really know how or when to fight. This is why most people who represent themselves typically have higher fines and harsher penalties. When a lawyer shows up, however, prosecutors accord them the professional respect given to someone who knows what they are doing. They are much more likely to give in, as they recognize when a defense will likely end in a dismissal. Terms for a reduction are also likely to be more favorable, as both parties have experience in negotiating with one another as well. It is helpful to know in advance what each court’s “standard” deals are and what options the PA’s office will consider. Which means that you are a lot less likely to have to pay the ticket, and a more favorable reduction if you do have to go that route.

As you can see, there are many benefits to having a lawyer on your side. Even if you think you are guilty of the ticket, it doesn’t hurt to see if you can get your ticket reduced or perhaps dismissed because of an error on the ticket. Hiring a lawyer is likely cheaper than paying the ticket itself, so you don’t have much to lose.
